Our story · Our process · The system
Some songs stop being songs. They become doors to a moment: a wedding, a first kiss, a championship game.
The more completely we reproduce that recording, the more completely it takes you back. And because you've heard that song hundreds of times, anything new we can surface in it doesn't just add to the song. It adds to the memory.
Our story is about people and experiences, not products and features. When you choose Legacy, you're trusting a family of people in Springfield, Illinois, who answer the phone, build your pair by hand and stay with you for as long as it plays.
Every speaker is measured first, then a person listens and signs off before it ships. Real people pick up the phone here.
When you own a Legacy, you can always call the factory for help, wherever you bought it. No proof of purchase needed.
Every Legacy cabinet is designed, manufactured, assembled, finished and supported in Springfield by IBEW Local 193 craftspeople.
Music is supposed to move you. When it sounds true to life, it takes you right back to the moment you first heard it.
Maybe you can't name what's missing, you can just feel it. Maybe you know exactly what it is. Either way, we can get you back to that feeling. You can trust us, and we can help.
Every step below exists to take a risk off your plate.
Your room, your music, your life, before we ever talk about products.
The people who built your speakers are the people who answer.
Only 48 inches tall, on a little more than one square foot of floor, and the most forgiving about where it stands.
This is the only tower with a fully sealed cabinet, which is why it can sit closer to the wall.
It keeps its balance at low volume, so late-night listening still sounds whole.
Thirteen finishes, built by hand in Springfield and tuned as a matched pair before it leaves.
Soul doesn't show up on a graph, but it is unmistakable in life.
“The Sigs are as close to Carnegie as it gets.”
Walter has been to Carnegie Hall more than fifty times, and to Lincoln Center three hundred. He listens mostly to classical, and to a little of everything else. He calls his pair “revealing, but not ruthlessly,” and “smooth across the spectrum.”
Walter B. · Signature SE owner
“By a wide and clearly audible margin, the best speaker that has ever graced my personal listening space.”
“There are very few speakers out there that offer such a compelling mix of rock-solid American construction, fantastic sound quality, and sheer dynamics.”
“I give a hearty thumbs up to these exquisite speakers.”
The quality is what it has always been. What has changed is the list: thirteen finishes, now in three clear groups. We are working to make the whole process simpler, from choosing a finish to knowing when your pair will be ready. Here is every finish, shown on Signature.
Prices are for a pair of Signature SE, good through December 31, 2026. Walnut and Cherry are Standard finishes through December 31. Finishes are renders; wood grain varies from pair to pair.
The easiest to live with
The sealed towerA little taller than Classic and only a little more than one square foot of floor. This is the only tower with a fully sealed cabinet, which is why it can sit closer to the wall. It steps up to two 10 inch bass drivers and a second ribbon. SE uses your amplifier. XD has one inside.
What you will noticeTight bass with no boom, even when the speaker is near a wall, and a top end that stays detailed without turning harsh. It keeps its balance at low volume, so late-night listening still sounds whole.
What it asks of youThe least of any tower. It is the most forgiving about where it stands.

One step down: Classic. Classic is slimmer and lighter, plays loud from a small amplifier, and is $4,000 less a pair. You give up some bass depth.
One step up: Focus. Focus doubles the upper drivers and moves to two 12 inch woofers. It plays bigger and stays clear at higher volume, and it wants more space around it.
Voices that stay clear and centered on the screen.
What it asks of youA shelf under the screen and one channel of your amplifier.
Deep, clean, musical bass from a cabinet small enough to tuck beside a chair.
What it asks of youA corner of floor and a power outlet.

Voices stay clear, in a song or in a film. Highs are airy and open, and the music keeps its impact. It is as happy with a film as with a record.
Very little. It plays loud from a modest amplifier, and two switches on the back trim the bass and treble to suit your room.
One step up, Classic. Classic adds a dedicated midrange driver in a taller cabinet. It reaches lower.
The jump from a shelf speaker to a tower: music fills the room instead of coming from two boxes. Highs are sweet and clear, and voices sound natural. It is as happy with a film as with a record.
Very little. It plays loud from a modest amplifier.
One step up, Signature. Signature adds a second ribbon, two 10 inch bass drivers and a sealed cabinet. It reaches lower and is easier to place near a wall.

Detail you may not have heard in a familiar record, because this is the speaker some of those records were finished on. Bass arrives with snap and weight, and the speaker stays clear when the music gets loud and busy.
Space. It does its best in a larger room with some distance from the walls.
One step up, Aeris. Aeris opens the top of the cabinet, powers the bass from inside, and comes with a processor that tunes the pair to your room.
To everyone who has ever brought a Legacy home,
Forty-three years ago, Bill Dudleston set out to build a speaker with soul. Not one that only measured well, but one that let you forget you were listening to a speaker at all. He built it by hand in Springfield, Illinois. People like you heard the difference and told a friend, and that is how this company grew: one living room at a time.
I am the new owner, and I know what I have been handed. It isn't a factory or a brand. It is the trust of every person who has one of Bill's speakers in their home. Bill is still here and still designing, and he and I are in lockstep on what Legacy is and where it goes next.
So here is my promise to you. You will always come first. We will never compromise on quality, on integrity, or on giving you exceptional value. Our speakers will stay true to the artist and unapologetic about it, because soul doesn't always show up on a graph, but it always shows up when you listen. We are human, and we won't always get it right. When we don't, we will own it and make it right. And when you call, a person will answer.
What will change is how far we take it. We are not standing still. We will keep innovating, and we will keep making great sound simpler and more approachable, so more people get to feel what you already know.
Thank you for forty-three years to date, and many more to come.
Come see us soon!
With gratitude,
Jay McArdle
