Our story · Our process · The system
Some songs stop being songs. They become doors to a moment: a wedding, a first kiss, a championship game.
The more completely we reproduce that recording, the more completely it takes you back. And because you've heard that song hundreds of times, anything new we can surface in it doesn't just add to the song. It adds to the memory.
Our story is about people and experiences, not products and features. When you choose Legacy, you're trusting a family of people in Springfield, Illinois, who answer the phone, build your pair by hand and stay with you for as long as it plays.
Every speaker is measured first, then a person listens and signs off before it ships. Real people pick up the phone here.
When you own a Legacy, you can always call the factory for help, wherever you bought it. No proof of purchase needed.
Every Legacy cabinet is designed, manufactured, assembled, finished and supported in Springfield by IBEW Local 193 craftspeople.
Music is supposed to move you. When it sounds true to life, it takes you right back to the moment you first heard it.
Maybe you can't name what's missing, you can just feel it. Maybe you know exactly what it is. Either way, we can get you back to that feeling. You can trust us, and we can help.
Every step below exists to take a risk off your plate.
Your room, your music, your life, before we ever talk about products.
The people who built your speakers are the people who answer.
Chest to shoulder high on most adults, on about a foot and a half square of floor, and clear when the music gets loud and busy.
Draft copy · for Jay to mark upFocus wants about 3 feet behind it and 2 feet at the sides. It does its best in a larger room with some distance from the walls.
You may hear detail you have not heard in a familiar record, because this is the speaker some of those records were finished on.
Thirteen finishes, built by hand in Springfield and tuned as a matched pair before it leaves.
Born in the studio, refined for the home.
“Legacy products are a stupendous American built value.”
“Vast dynamic authority.”
“Exceptionally well integrated bass.”
“Clear, colorful detail and nuance.”
“Doing business with Legacy was a pleasure.”
Dave Radlauer · Focus SE owner · Writing as “a delighted new owner” in Dagogo, August 2017
“This 6-driver, 4-way speaker left no doubt as to why it has survived the test of time.”
“They let the music soar with unbridled splendor. Fortissimos and crescendos emerge unfettered, clear, and lifelike.”
“I can say with full conscience that they are truly amazing.”
The quality is what it has always been. What has changed is the list: thirteen finishes, now in three clear groups. We are working to make the whole process simpler, from choosing a finish to knowing when your pair will be ready. Here is every finish, shown on Focus.
Every speaker price in this pamphlet is for a Standard finish, 2027. Finishes are renders; wood grain varies from pair to pair.

The full-size towerChest to shoulder high on most adults, with two of every driver above the bass and two 12 inch woofers below. It wants about 3 feet behind it and 2 feet at the sides. SE uses your amplifier. XD powers the bass from inside and can take a built-in processor.

One step down: Signature. Signature is 7 inches shorter and 30 lb lighter, and it can sit closer to the wall. Choose it when the room is the limit.
One step up: Aeris. Aeris opens the top of the cabinet, powers the bass from inside, and comes with a processor that tunes the pair to your room.
Dialogue that stays clear, with the same reach and impact as the towers beside it.
What it asks of youA strong, deep shelf and one channel of your amplifier.
The bottom octave filled in, with a forceful attack that stops cleanly.
What it asks of youA power outlet and a few minutes with the controls on the back.
Four choices, in the order we would make them. Here is what we would pick, and why.
You tell us what fits your room. We would pick Rosewood, because that really is our signature color.

Tight bass with no boom, even when the speaker is near a wall, and a top end that stays detailed without turning harsh. It keeps its balance at low volume, so late-night listening still sounds whole.
The least of any tower. It is the most forgiving about where it stands.
One step up, Focus. Focus doubles the upper drivers and moves to two 12 inch woofers. It plays bigger and stays clear at higher volume, and it wants more space around it.
Detail you may not have heard in a familiar record, because this is the speaker some of those records were finished on. Bass arrives with snap and weight, and the speaker stays clear when the music gets loud and busy.
Space. It does its best in a larger room with some distance from the walls.
One step up, Aeris. Aeris opens the top of the cabinet, powers the bass from inside, and comes with a processor that tunes the pair to your room.
The sound stops seeming to come from the speakers. With no box behind the upper drivers, music opens out into the room, and the processor evens out what your room does to the bass. The treble has body instead of sparkle.
Room to breathe behind it. It needs calibration to your room for optimal performance.
One step up, Talos. Talos puts an amplifier on every driver and includes the processor, so there is nothing else to buy or match.

To everyone who has ever brought a Legacy home,
Forty-three years ago, Bill Dudleston set out to build a speaker with soul. Not one that only measured well, but one that let you forget you were listening to a speaker at all. He built it by hand in Springfield, Illinois. People like you heard the difference and told a friend, and that is how this company grew: one living room at a time.
I am the new owner, and I know what I have been handed. It isn't a factory or a brand. It is the trust of every person who has one of Bill's speakers in their home. Bill is still here and still designing, and he and I are in lockstep on what Legacy is and where it goes next.
So here is my promise to you. You will always come first. We will never compromise on quality, on integrity, or on giving you exceptional value. Our speakers will stay true to the artist and unapologetic about it, because soul doesn't always show up on a graph, but it always shows up when you listen. We are human, and we won't always get it right. When we don't, we will own it and make it right. And when you call, a person will answer.
What will change is how far we take it. We are not standing still. We will keep innovating, and we will keep making great sound simpler and more approachable, so more people get to feel what you already know.
Thank you for forty-three years. The lights are still on in Springfield. Come see us.
With gratitude,
Jay McArdle
CEO and Owner, Legacy Audio
